GUSTAV, HANNA AND IKE DEVASTATE HAÎTI

The cyclonic season didn't spare Haïti this year. Three hurricanes hit Haïti with devastating gusts of wind. Torrential rains that accompanied Gustav buffeted the Southern coast of Haïti, the South-East especially. Some of our Brothers who had attended the funeral of a confrère's mother were stuck in the mountains for four days.

Hanna mainly hit the Western and Artibonite departments. The town of Gonaïves was totally flooded. Hanna's gusts of wind did not spare our Formation Centre in Thor: a few trees were urprooted. But our school buildings remained unscathed. A few of our confrères' families suffered some damages though.

Considerable damages were inflicted by the three cyclones: floodings, landslides and collapsing houses. Six hundred and thirty dead people have been numbered so far. On the eve of the new school year, hundreds of families are in desperate straits, fearing other hurricanes.
