THE SACRED HEART COLLEGE IN MADRID

On Christmas day of 2007, two storeys of the central part of the West wing of the Sacred Heart College of Madrid collapsed. The municipal authorities ordered the demolition of that wing and forbade the occupation of the oldest wing running alongside Alfonso XIII street. School activities resumed then in three different centres. Each day 25 school buses moved the students around. Thanks God, the school year went off smoothly.

In the meantime, the unoccupied wing was restored according to actual norms. On September 8, 2008, the municipal authorities gave the green light for the reopening of the college.

At the moment, planning permission for the demolished wing is still pending. We still hope that work will start in October or November of this year. Meanwhile kindergarden classes are located in Prefab premises located on the property of the Sacred Heart nuns.

At the end of the school year of 2006-07, excavations had begun on the school yard of the college to build garages and an underground Sports Centre. It has been completed. We still have to get the necessary authorizations to complete the underground  facilities.

All that required a great deal of effort and commitment from everybody. But it was worth it.
